HISTORY
In 433 BC during the Peloponnesian war, the naval battle of Sivota took place in this area. During the Ottoman occupation the settlement took the name "Mourtos", that was the name of a dignitary that used to tax all commercial ships were passing by Sivota. This name was kept until 1959 when the original name was brought back again. Sivota -like the rest of Thesprotia region- became part of the Greek state again after the Balkan Wars of 1912 – 1913. Sivota has over 3.000 inhabitants and the capital of the municipality is called "Plataria".
